Is the homework given to students to much?

Everyone has had homework in their life at least once even if they are 60+ years old. The purpose of homework is repetition so that students remember what they have/are doing in class. But homework and school in general has changed so much in just the last 20+ years.
Students are being pushed that they must pass their classes in order to get in college. When students are pushed not every student gets the program that teachers must use in their classes, this includes the amount of homework that is given. AP classes and Regular class their homework loads are both really different.
Where a regular classes homework could take the student less than thirty minutes to complete an AP classes homework could take the student over an hour to complete. This all can affect the physical and mental health of a student because they might not be getting enough rest due to home or the stress is so high that a student might want to give up on their school work all together. So how much homework is much?
When students and teachers were interviewed their answer where all different. Most students are in at least one AP class and their homework has taken them at least one hour to do. “Football causes me to do my homework later because of practice,” Jon Dailey, freshman, said.
Not every student is in a sport but some do have jobs which makes them do their homework later than if someone didn’t have a job. “ It stresses me out,” Ariel Thomas, Senior, said. “It takes me about an hour to do my homework causing me to only get a few hours of sleep.”
“I will always take into consideration the mental health of a student,” Chris Furgson, History and Economics, said.
Some students are affected and the stress as well as not getting enough sleep can affect the mental health of students. The reason for this is because depression can develop as well as anxiety in a students who is rushing to meet deadlines because they have so much work that they have to do. This also included in the ability to be apart of extra activities and join sports or even get a job. They might be told to get a job by their parents for an unknown amount of reasons. But how does homework still affect the life of a students?
“Students are always doing something after school because colleges are a lot more competitive than when I was in high school,”Jessca Frankle said.
