America's Longest Government Shut down

There is one thing that almost every American knows about and that’s the Government Shut down. The Government Shutdown started on December 22, 2018 and has been going on for 30+ days.

Well what exactly is the Government Shutdown? The Shutdown happen when Congress fails to pass a sufficient appropriation on Bills or continuing resolutions to fund federal government operations and agencies, or when the President refuses to sign into law such bills or resolutions. What is the reason for this Government shutdown? It could be a variation of things but the main reason is the President wants the funding to build a wall on the Mexico/America border.

When you hear about walls throughout history and even now you don’t really hear the good things that happen from building a wall or a barrier. Almost all the walls/barriers that have been built in the last 70 or so years have gone up especially after the second world war. During World War 2 there was only 7 or so walls built around the world on borders, 1989 when the berlin wall fell there was 15, and after the effect of 9/11 there are over 77 today.

Walls may seem like they are trying to do good things for other countries. Because there is terrorism all around the world that is a cause for some not all walls to be built in the world.

When you learn about the amount of walls that are built in the world you don’t really know why unless you decided to do more research on the topics. When you search the reason why they all seem to be similar in some ways.

The main reason for a lot of walls to be built is to block illegal immigrants from going into the said country. A lot of countries in Africa and the middle east have built walls in order to keep people from smuggling drugs and other things into certain countries. Although countries have this many people that are doing things illegally find ways to get by the wall/barrier which includes making tunnels, climbing over them or finding other spots that aren’t apart of the wall.

Walls can be useful and they can be a waste of money for the country. Many places should take into consideration of what would be the best for their country in the long run. A wall can separate families and some people's ability to travel for their jobs. It should be a given that a vote is needed to see what the people of a country think.
