Depression on the rise

Teens and young adults alike deal with an illness called depression. Not everyone has to deal with or even go through a stage of it in their life. But are there is another thing that people with depression also deal with: Suicide.

Depression affects over 350 million people worldwide and over 1 million suicides with 10 to 20 million attempted suicides yearly. Many people have depression and might not be able to treat it for many reason and it can result to suicide. Not every death of suicide is because of depression it can be a number of things: PTSD, money issues, an addiction, bipolar, Anxiety ect.... But a lot of people have started making fun of people who have a mental illness because it's an illness that someone can't see like the flu or a cold. The ones that are actually affected by any mental illness can get help but what about the ones who can't get help. Every mental illness has a treatment plan it maybe therapy or it could be taking medications.

Someone who is affected by depression can feel various things. When three people were asked about how depression or suicide has affected them the answers changed while some where the same. "Depression has always had an affect on me. Before I was affected by the disease others around me experienced it but I never knew the extent of it. I never knew how bad/serious the repercussions are." One person said while being interviewed. "After being diagnosed depression has affected me on a spectrum. It can range from almost a constant numbing daze, almost as if you're floating through a blur of life of not want to leave your bed. Not want to eat, drink, shower or even live your life. I can go into this for a long time." Showing just how bad it can affect just one person. You can't just tell the person when they are in this state to stop being depressed as if that will work it would be like telling someone with a broken leg to just walk it off, It just doesn't work now does it?

Have you ever noticed in a teenage show where a main character or a character that they're personality is based around a mental disorder. A few shows like to either romanticize Depression/Suicide to show how romantic depression/suicide can be when it really isn't. Shows are like this a lot but have slowly been getting better about it. It just isn't shows it's in a lot of books that are targeted towards anyone who may read a romantic style book or story. Why do this Depression is not something that show be romanticized ever and either should suicide. There are people who have to deal with knowing that someone close to them is dead because of suicide or someone close to them has to take a variety of pills just so they can functions properly.

Every person has depression affect them at a different age and in a different way. After asking people a variety of questions on how depression has affected them. Each person interviewed gave different answers and their names will not be said for personal reasons. "I have had depression affect me since I have been about seven or eight years old. It was only this year (2018) that my depression got really bad in March it was very painful to go through. Depression has given me insomnia while it makes me fall asleep very late like 3 o'clock in the morning. It makes my memory weak and makes my mind weak." School, work or just life in general can become harder to do with depression. "I have no appetite, no interest in life, nothing to do. Just overall painful." This person had told me in a short interview. Depression has affected her ability to due certain things in her everyday life.

Depression is something that everyone needs to take serious in life. This is any other illness that anyone in the world can get. Depression should be thought as breaking a leg or getting sick with the flu or the common cold. People need to think that this is an illness that someone can get better from. With enough support and care someone could be better than if they didn't have a group of people willing to talk to them and be there for them.

Everyone goes through a rough time in their life at least once but depression can make that rough patch 20 times worse than it would on someone who doesn't have a mental illness. When someone isn't there for them they can do things do various things that can make things worse. Some will stop taking their pills (Medication) others will start doing reckless things like smoking or drink while underage.

With that being said remember that Depression and Suicide is something that shouldn't be taken lightly. I didn't include the names of the people I interviewed for personal reasons. People are here to talk all the time so don't think that you are alone.
